Welcome! This website features selected poetry created by young women over the course of 7 weeks in the Bronx. Writing prompts inspired by poets like Sandra Cisneros, Gwendolyn Brooks, Langston Hughes and Warsan Shire helped our poets express themselves. They were open to reading and learning about the work of traditional and contemporary artists of all kinds (including Beyonce!), and they wrote AMAZING poems every week! These sessions were fun and memorable for me as their teaching artist, and I hope they are as proud of themselves as we are of them!!! Thanks to Joy Leonard and Tasheema Lucas at the New Settlement Apartments Girls Program for working together to provide this forum, and thanks to Bonnie Rose Marcus for her administrative support through Poets & Writers.
